Privacy Policy

Smart Way ("we", "us", or "our") is a GCE exam preparation app built for Cameroonian students. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use the Smart Way app, why we collect it, how it's used, and the choices you have. By creating an account or using Smart Way, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

We keep the information we collect deliberately minimal — just what's needed to run your account, personalise your experience, and process payments for the study resources you purchase.

Account & Profile Information

Account Authentication

Smart Way does not create or store your own password. Signing in is handled entirely through Google Sign-In or Sign in with Apple. We only receive the basic profile details (such as your name and email address) that you grant permission for during that sign-in process — your login credentials themselves stay with Google or Apple and are never seen or stored by Smart Way.

Study & Usage Data

To power features like progress tracking, we record which papers and mock exams you've accessed, your practice session activity, and your performance per subject. This data is tied to your account and is not shared with anyone.

Full access to past papers and study resources is unlocked through a paid subscription. Payments are processed securely through Fapshi, which settles payments via MTN Mobile Money and Orange Money. We never see or store your mobile money PIN — only the phone number used for payment, the transaction ID, and the payment confirmation status are passed back to us.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers. Smart Way only works with a small number of trusted service providers, each strictly limited to the role below:

These providers operate under their own privacy policies and only receive the minimum information needed to perform their service.

We take reasonable, industry-standard measures to protect your information — including encrypting data in transit, storing account data on secure servers with restricted access, and never storing sensitive payment credentials such as mobile money PINs. That said, no method of transmission or storage over the internet can be guaranteed to be 100% secure, and we continuously review our practices as the app grows.

We keep your account and study data for as long as your account remains active, or as needed to provide the app's features, maintain accurate payment records, and meet legal obligations. If you delete your account, we remove your personal information within a reasonable period, except where we're required to retain certain records (such as payment history) for legal or accounting purposes.

Smart Way is built for secondary school students preparing for the Cameroon GCE, generally aged 13 and above. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we've inadvertently collected information from a child under 13, we will take steps to delete it. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information without your consent, please contact us.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, the app's features, or legal requirements. When we do, we'll update the "Last updated" date above, and for significant changes, we'll notify you in the app or by email.
